ABOUT THE TRAINING

ENROLL IN THE PROGRAM

My practice and  school support the Black Lives Matter Movement.

Our country has not supported, and protected Indigenous and Black People of Color/IBPOC
for over 400 years. We are mourning the multiple murders, and abuse of so many Indigenous and Black People of Color for the past 4 centuries. Right now we are grieving the recent loss of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, two Black Trans Women: Dominique Fells and Riah Milton, as well as so sadly, many other Indigenous and Black People Of Color murders. We support ending systemic racism, by taking responsibility as white people to learn about it.  Our hope is to support long overdue change in our country and the cranial community to be more inclusive of all people. We support healing for those that have suffered in our country. Our goal is to do the following to begin a lifelong process of repair:

1.)  Teach the origin that our work comes from
traditional American Indian bodywork where the healing method was developed by two traditional Cherokee women. The work of the Cherokee  is the basis of Osteopathy, Chiropractic, and Cranial Osteopathy.
2.)  Start a scholarship fund for Indigenous and Black People of Color, and support having more IBPOC teachers. We will start with our own donation.
3.) Teach anatomy and curriculum using gender neutral pronouns, and non-sexist language.
4.) Educate ourselves as white people about systemic racism, and inform students about the negative imprints the IBPOC population deals with, and how these imprints affect IBPOC's systems in our curriculum.
5.) Teach LGB/trans/queer negative imprints this population endures from heterosexism in our curriculum.
6.) Teach what white male privilege is, and how it imprints people.
7.) Teach creating a safe relational field ( the basis of our work ) in the class.
8.) Use pronouns that people choose to identify with.
9.) Encourage people to make repair in class when they have hurt others.
10.) Encouraging voices of IBPOC to be heard more in the biodynamic craniosacral community.
11.) Encouraging voices of LGBTQ voices to be heard more in the biodynamic craniosacral community.
12.) Educating ourselves about intersectionality.
13.) When we can host the student clinic again ( once Covid-19 settles down)  We will offer the IBPOC and trans community discounted rates.
14.) We are encouraging TA's and Students to take this course with:
RESMAA MENAKEM author of recommended read: My Grandmother's hands. More White Racism Education Resources
we are just getting started.

This training is certified by the Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Association of North America

It is my hope that in the state of Massachusetts, and nationwide biodynamic craniosacral therapists become licensed providers to create consistency in our profession.

Dr. Kate has been practicing craniosacral therapy since 1989.
She is a certified Biodynamic Craniosacral teacher through the BCST/NA
This is a two year/ 700 hour training
*Not all classes, and teachers, and practitioners that use the words biodynamic craniosacral are certified through the BCST/NA, and have not completed the 700 hour training.

All certified teachers, school table assistants, and practitioners are on the BCST/NA website.

As s BCST/NA-certified teacher and practitioner  I am bound by the Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Association of North America's code of ethics in practice and teaching.
This training stems from traditional American Indian bodywork where the healing method was developed
by  traditional Cherokee. The work of these Cherokee is the basis of Osteopathy, and Cranial Osteopathy.
Dr Stone and Dr
William Sutherland were students of Dr Still's.  Dr Rolland Becker, was Dr Sutherland's colleague.
This work was then brought out into the world and developed further by Franklyn Sills, Michael Kern, Katherine Ukleja, Myrna Martin, Anna and John Chitty, Christopher and Louise Mueller, Ray Castellino, and many others.

Professional Foundational Two Year Training

This two-year part time training consists of fourteen modules: providing 48 days. Eleven of the modules are 3 days/ Friday/Saturday/Sunday; and three modules are 5 days/ Wednesday-Sunday. It is taught by Dr. Kate has been in private practice treating patients with cranial work consistently since 1989. She has formally trained as a biodynamic craniosacral therapy teacher for 10 years through the North American Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Association. Dr. Kate has spent 400 days of her life in biodynamic craniosacral trainings, and years in private practice since 1988. Much of her teaching comes from clinical experience.

*** A note to those interested in taking this training.
Aside from the anatomy, tides, fulcrums, etc... this work is about co-creating a safe relational field in the classroom setting for all people present. To be a practitioner it requires those in the class to work with their shadow. You can be sure that you will have strong feelings be they negative or positive about your teacher during this training. That does not mean that those feelings are based in current time. Strong reactions are often based in early family imprints. A huge part of this class has to do with learning to settle your nervous system and mind-body in relationship to others. We create a safe space and relational field for people to share what they are noticing. Growth happens as you deepen your relationship with yourself, get to know your self, and take responsibility for your triggers/activation. Since it is a classroom setting rather than a clinical therapeutic setting it is not appropriate to expect the teacher, TA's, and other students to be the main source of healing around what comes up for you in relationship to the class. We require that students get supervision to work with what may arise in the class. You are required to receive supervision from a therapist (we can share the kinds of therapist that fit the bill later) during the training as some external support. This is an extra cost to the training that you should budget in your classwork.

Transference and projection will happen in this training. It is pertinent that you can identify and work on your shadow, and work with your reactivity. It is a requirement to get regular psychological support outside of class to take this professional training. You must be in good psychological health to study this work. It is highly disruptive to other students learning processes if you begin to project your pain onto the class and teacher, and not take responsibility for your own activation. Making the class unsafe by holding the teacher and other class members in the worst light creates lack of safety in the field. Students must assume that the teacher, and class participants are coming from their highest place. (because we are, I assure you ! ) Being  a professional training students that create a lot of conflict and unsafely will be asked to leave the training.   A certain level of self reflection, maturity, flexibility, trust, and generosity is required to take this training. Things change, people come and go sometimes, weather happens, etc... Please know that we do our best to create a consistent, settled, non-judgmental space for the training.

YOU ARE TRAINING TO BE STRONG, RESILIENT PRACTITIONERS WITH BUOYANCY!

THAT WAY YOU CAN BE WITH WHAT ARISES WITH CLIENTS.

YOU HAVE TO LEARN BUOYANCY WITH YOURSELF FIRST...

As the teacher my job is to support safety in the classroom. Class attendance is not the sole basis for graduation. If you have not shown that you can support a safe relational field for all you will not graduate.

Graduation is based in self regulation skills and an ability to co-create a safe relational field for all, as well as all the skills involved with practicing biodynamic craniosacral therapy. It is a requirement that you are kind and respectful towards the other students, and the
teacher. This training is about personal growth and development as a practitioner. Racism, sexism, transphobia, and homophobia will not be tolerated. .
Dishonesty in an application is grounds for dismissal.

The training is more than anatomy, and the craniosacral system. It is non-traditional in that safety in relationship to everyone in the room is required.  The teacher makes decisions about students participating in the training based on the safety of the larger group.

You will be asked to sign this statement before starting the training.

Contact Kate if you are interested in becoming a TA... First time TA’s are considered floaters and are not paid.

A note about State requirements to practice...

Massachusetts
Since this is a new profession there are no state licenses currently. In Massachusetts you can practice this work without another degree such as massage therapy.
New York
Craniosacral falls primarily under the massage therapy license. In other words, massage therapists have claimed it for themselves and are politically active in trying to make sure that other practitioners don't do it. Interestingly, it is not within the scope of practice of acupuncturists in NY (although we can do hands on therapy nonspecifically). Physical therapists, doctors, nurses, podiatrists, and chiropractors have an exemption that allows them to officially practice cranialsacral therapy. Ministers can touch therapeutically, but according to NYS law they can't practice cranialsacral therapy.

Miscellaneous Info about licensing and practicing.
Each state has its own set of rules. You would have to check the state that you are interested in practicing in, if you do not already have a license such as massage therapy, chiropractic, physical therapy, etc...
You can contact the biodynamic craniosacral therapy association of North America.  Edwin is the Judicial & Governmental Review Chair.  He may be able to help you state by state... on how to find out what is required to practice BCST...

Many states are trying to pass a bodywork umbrella licensing requirement to stop sex trafficking, that covers tons of different professions like Polarity, Feldenkrais, etc...including BCST:
